What’s Your Function? (Part 1)

Today I read a devotional on my #YouVersion Bible App that asked this question: Do you wonder how you can stay where God has called you when you aren’t sure the work you’ve been given is good enough?

The Bible verse the author referenced was: 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part.”

After reading that I began to think of us believers and how we all make up the body of Christ. Each member with a different function. Then the thought came into my head of,  ‘what part of the body of Christ am I?’ And immediately I got the image of an eyelash. (I laugh as I tell you this!)…Seriously, this is what came to my mind. “I’m an eyelash? Lord, why an eyelash?” I don’t even like my eyelashes.  They’re short and straight and if one falls out I just brush it off. Of course, I wouldn’t want to lose them all either. We’d look kind of strange without eyelashes, huh? And, they really do serve a purpose. So, I kind of left it at that, just pondering why He brought that to my mind. Then I went on to the next verse she referenced:

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.)”

Zechariah 4:10 NLT

WOW! Do you see how God speaks? Now I have such a clear image of what He’s saying to my heart…I’m like an eyelash…His eyelash! I’m useful and necessary for His eye.  I’m there along with many others but He thinks I’m important to His eye; one little eyelash but I’m known to Him! 😉
